Abstract
In early 21-st century the United States has substantially reduced its dependence on the Arab oil while asserting itself as a leading exporter of the hydrocarbons in the world. Can it ensue unavoidable contracting of American interest to the Middle East region as a whole? Such a possibility is a matter of growing concern for the US' Arab partners and Israel as well. Yet the American policy in the region is acquiring some fresh foundations. The maintained and from time to time increased American presence there in economic and military terms is a testimony to the fact that the Middle East remains to be an important area for the U.S. in geostrategic terms. To underline that the energy-related factor keeps playing its role in the American decision making.
