Abstract
The article examines the American's expectations concerning social security program, its role among other sources of income; their opinion on what the government should or should not do (raise taxes, cut benefits, increase the age at which people are eligible to receive full retirement benefits, limit benefits for wealthy retirees, etc.), if the cost of major entitlement programs does create economic problems for the U.S. It also discusses savings for the period of retirement, not including Social Security or employer-provided pension plans.
