- Abstract
- The article discusses problems of the institutional organization of social anthropology as a scholarly fi eld and higher education discipline in the present day Russia. The authors analyze the specifi city of symbolic struggles among academic communities in the context of current legislative decisions on the system of professional staff reproduction. Of particular interest is the fact that social anthropology has not been included in the offi cial roster of higher education disciplines approved by the Ministry of Education in Russia; however, as the authors demonstrate, the complex and contradictory development of this academic fi eld in the country is still continuing.
