Abstract
The paper explores the history, research area and theoretical principles of anthropology of consciousness - one of the youngest anthropological directions that was formed and developed in the USA in the second half of the 20th century. From its start anthropology of consciousness as an independent discipline within the anthropological knowledge has raised multiple concerns and disputes. Leading research centers, prevailing thematic domains and most prominent academic works are characterized in the article.
