- Abstract
- The article examines the tradition of goldwork embroidery among the Mishar Tatars of the Volga-Ural region. This type of embroidery was used among the Mishar for embellishing both the traditional dress and objects of everyday use. The art has parallels in sewing traditions of the Kazan, Kasimov, and Crimea Tatars, as well as the Russians. Drawing on comparative analysis of ornamental patterns and sewing techniques, the author attempts to describe the principal features and specificities of the Mishar style.
