The leading pork producers are China (48% of world production in 2017), the EU, USA, Brazil, Russia, which together produced almost 86% of the world production of this type of meat. China and Brazil are dominated by large-scale production in small-scale family farms, but in the twenty-first century its concentration accelerated. The selection and breeding work focuses on the production of hybrids with high productive qualities using Yorkshire, Landrace and Duroc breeds.
