Abstract
The article presents an iconographical analysis of the scene of Ἰλίου πέρσις on a pyxis from the State Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg). A new attribution and more precise definition of the scene’s subject is proposed. According to the new interpretation the culmination of Ἰλίου πέρσις, Priam’s murder, is depicted in the centre of the composition. The heroеs represented on left and on the right are Trojans who have escaped death: Aeneas carrying Anchises, with Ascanius and Antenor or his son Helicaon; other fine representations to be seen on the pyxis show two events which took place on the next day after the capture of Troy: the murder of Astyanax and the sacrifice of Polyxena.
