Abstract
The article is dedicated to one of the most striking phenomena of Brazilian culture of the twentieth century - the Week of Contemporary Art, held in Sao Paulo 95 years ago. This anniversary is widely celebrated in Brazil throughout the whole year of 1917, as this event radically changed the fate of Brazilian culture, initiating modernism. Coming from Europe, modernism received its own, original sound in this Latin American country. His echoes can be easily felt in today's cultural life of Brazil.
