- Abstract
- The authors point attention to the fact that attempts at viewing and representing ethnic groups as isolated and homogenous cultural entities, which are not infrequent today, are most obvious in current discussions on languages of ethnic minorities. These attempts, as the authors stress, lead to the construction of deeply contradictory ethnopolitical models of various sorts. The essential characteristics of these discussions as well as the features of ensuing models are critically analyzed in the article which focuses, as a case study object, on the major regions where Finno-Ugric peoples reside.
