Abstract
The paper focuses on the impacts of industrialization and urbanization on the Evenki indigenous community, practices of adaptation and social networking between the urban and rural Evenki in the region of Baikal-Amur Mainline in the northern Zabaikalskii Krai and Amurskaia Oblast. The author shows how the construction of the railroad and cities, as well as the growing mining industry, have produced a multicultural environment with its overlapping technological (infrastructural) and social networks; and, recently, an increased struggle for resources among various social groups in the context of shrinking support for the BAM urban development.
