Аннотация

В статье рассматриваются переписные категории, призванные отразить этническое и расовое многообразие населения Белиза, социоисторический контекст проведения переписей, а также их политическое и социальное воздействие. Как с течением времени видоизменяется представление о “многообразии”: национальном, религиозном, “расовом”, этническом и т.п.? Каким образом инструменты контроля населения учитывают (или не учитывают) это многообразие населения? Какие политические, социальные, идеологические мотивы кроются за техническими решениями? Кто разрабатывает инструменты описания (переписи) и с какими целями? Как эти цели и инструменты меняются в зависимости от политико-институциональных рамок (колония, самоуправляемая территория, независимое государство)?
