Abstract
The editors' introduction to the special theme of the issue on the prominent Russian ethnographer and anthropologist Sergei Shirokogoroff (1887-1939) briefly presents the focus of the articles written by D.V. Arzyutov, T.D. Bulgakova, A.A. Sirina and V.N. Davydov. Their authors discuss the little-known aspects of Shirokogoroff's scholarly work, such as research on visual materials, ethnographic collections, and methodology of shamanism studies. The articles contain new facts concerning the biography of the scholar, and analyze the context of his work and the interpretation of his scientific views by other researchers.
